Aurora was appointed by Matthew Edward to undertake a full survey, review and design for a major upgrade of the Royal Devonport Dockyard 8 Dock Facility. Aurora’s initial scope was to attend the site to carry out a preliminary site survey and identify the existing earthing arrangements and configuration, and to develop a strategy for integrating the new earthing system into the existing system, given the significant brownfield constraints. Aurora then attended site to carry out a series of continuity tests between strategic substations in order to validate the earth fault return path.
Subsequently Aurora then developed a model of the local system using the CDEGS earthing simulation software, before undertaking an EPR calculation and touch and step voltage calculation to determine the system was safe for both local and transferred faults.
