Cottam Powerstation

Aurora Power Consulting was contracted by Trant Engineering to undertake the HV design and power system studies for a planned upgrade to Cottam Power Station for a new make up and purge water cooling system.

Aurora’s scope was to develop the HV connection to the existing power station, new HV cable route and the HV design of the new system as well as the associated tie-ins for the protection and control system between the new and existing systems. Aurora also carried out a full set of studies in ETAP to validate the new system extension worked as anticipated; the studies carried out included loadflow, fault level, motor starting, harmonics, protection and arc flash.
