Smith Brothers

Ernesettle 20MW BESS

Power System Studies and Earthing Analysis

Aurora was commissioned by Smith Brothers to carry out a series of power systems studies in order to meet compliance with the DNO, for a new 20MW Battery Energy Storage Site (BESS), as a brownfield development of a previous STOR facility.

The studies scope included loadflow, short circuit, P28/2 voltage disturbance, P29 unbalance, ENA G5.4 Stage 3 harmonics, G99 Type C studies and protection coordination; which were all carried out using the DIgSILENT Powerfactory software package.

In addition to the power system studies, Aurora also carried out a soil resistivity survey and an earthing study in CDEGS to identify the Earth Potential Rise (EPR), touch and step voltages and transfer risks from the upstream grid substation.
