Power System Studies

Synchronous Condensers

Aurora was contracted by Qmulus to carry out an assessment of a number of different proposed synchronous condensers that are proposed to be connected to the National Grid 275kV and 400kV transmission network, as part of the Stability Pathfinder project.

Aurora undertook a detailed short circuit study assessment using both the IEC 60909 method and using a full EMT analysis, in DIgSILENT Powerfactory considering the peak fault current, initial symmetrical fault current and fault current at 140ms to consider the fault behaviour, including the DC offset and decay through sub-transient and transient phases.
