Aurora was contracted by Costain, to assist in designing and developing a major upgrade to an existing critical Water Treatment Works (WTW), in Ross on Wye, UK.

The scope of working included design of the protection interface to the existing 33kV DNO legacy 1970s IDMT and REF protection scheme and tap controller, CT and VT sizing calculations, HV cable sizing, design of the new step-up tans former and emergency generator concept and power system studies for loadflow, fault level, motor starting and protection coordination.

As well as the main system design, Aurora also carried out a soil resistivity survey for the site, and then developed an overall earthing design including layout drawings and schematics, along with a full earthing study using the CDEGS package.
