Aurora has just finished undertaking a safety review for EirGrid / SONI in relation to a concern raised about the risk of a potential operator error in the Control Room, in relation to a planned upgrade of the Energy Management System (EMS).

As part of the study Aurora performed a detailed review of the electrical EMS system, EirGrid / SONI’s safety procedures, and interviewed key personnel about the potential scenarios in which the perceived safety risk could occur. Aurora then undertook a detailed Root Cause Analysis investigation to the study and tried to identify all the potential scenarios in which a risk could occur, and the control procedures in place to stop them occurring, using a fault tree analysis diagram.
