Aurora Power Consulting was contracted by Triton Power to carry out a concept study to look at upgrading the existing Indian Queens power station with a new synchronous condenser at the Cornwall site.
Auroras scope was to carry out a detailed concept study to validate the feasibility of adding a new synchronous condenser to the site. The first step in the process was to attend site and consider potential tie-in point for the new IPBs and location of the new unit transformer and associated auxiliaries. Secondly, a detailed fault level study to determine the fault levels on the existing Generator Circuit Breaker (GCB) and the new MV switchboard. Due to the large powerstation configuration the fault studies were carried out to both IEC 60909 and ENA G74, as well as zero crossing study carried out using the EMT function of DIgSILENT.
