Arc Flash Study

Frankfurt Data Centre

Aurora Power Consulting was contracted by E and I Engineering to undertake review the protection settings of a new large  data centre within the Frankfurt, Germany.

Aurora’s scope was to review the existing prsystem scheme system, and then to create an overall model of the system using DIgSILENT Powerfactory. Once the model had been created Aurora then carried out an arc flash study to assess the incident energy (I.E) levels on the sytem, considering the actual Fault Clearance Times (FCT) and the subsequent Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE).

The plant consisted of two incoming 110kV utility connections, a large redundant 10kV cable distribution system, extensive standby generation and a complex system of  UPSs to supply the data halls.
