Reactive Power Flow Study

Carengie Road

Aurora was contracted by Ørsted to carry out a reactive power flow study for a new 20 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) connected at 33 kV to the AuroraN network.

Aurora’s scope was to carry out a full reactive power flow study for the BESS for both the import and export conditions; to validate the design and confirm that the system could meet the full reactive power requirements as detailed in the Grid Code and ENA ER G99. Aurora created a model of the system using DIgSILENT PowerFactory and ran a number of different loadflow cases, for a range of different grid network voltages over the power park module’s full capability.

Once complete, Aurora prepared a detailed technical report which highlighted the findings and demonstrated full compliance.  This was then submitted to National Grid for approval.
