Aurora were appointed by Storengy (Stublach), to carry out a protection study, as well as various loadflow and short circuit studies, to facilitate the addition of two, new, 9.4MW gas injection compressors, at an underground gas storage facility.

As part of the project scope Aurora undertook a site survey of the existing facility and protection settings, before building a complete ETAP model of the existing site and proposed new facilities. Aurora then ran a series of loadflow and short circuit studies to validate that the new connected load was suitable for the existing site configuration.

Finally, once the system configuration had been validated, Aurora then carried out a detailed protection review of the existing site, checking that the correct protection settings were being used on the existing equipment, before proposing protection settings for the new drives and auxiliary systems. A detailed report was then prepared summarising the key findings of the load-flow, short circuit and protection study.
